Fee Only
Advisors Management Group, Inc. does not accept any form of compensation from any third party resulting from trading or where your assets are held eliminating all conflicts of interest between us. Our only compensation comes directly from you, who hire us to advocate for you at all times. This form of compensation aligns our interest with your success.
There has been frustration in the Industry from the consumer perspective because it is difficult to know the difference between Financial Professionals and how they are compensated. Below is some terminology to help you differentiate:
Commission-Only Advisors earn their income by selling investments. They are Registered Representatives of broker/dealer firms. They may refer to themselves as “independent” because they are not tied to only one broker/dealer…being positioned to sell for multiple broker/dealer firms. Be wary of that use of “independent”, as it does not mean they are working directly for you.
Fee-Only Advisors earn their income through charging fees directly to the people who hire them (the client). This fee can include an hourly fee or a percentage for assets under management. This is the Advisor’s only method of compensation and will come directly from their clients.
Fee-Based Advisors can earn their income using a combination of fees and commissions.
Registered Investment Advisor is an Advisor (the company) who holds a Fiduciary Responsibility to always act in your best interest. Your interest must come before the interest of the Advisor or anyone else.
Investment Advisor Representative is a Representative or Advisor for the Registered Investment Advisor. The company is the Registered Investment Advisor, the Advisors working for the RIA are Investment Advisor Representatives.
FINRA (Formerly NASD) is the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. This is a self-regulating body that regulates broker-dealers and representatives of broker-dealers.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is the government agency that regulates Federally Registered Investment Advisors. This is a government body regulating RIA’s, which is very different than the broker/dealer industry which is self-regulated through FINRA.
